stares, tweets and a funny, funny child

Just a couple of stories that made the news in the past few days. The first one is something I've been trying to explain to people, the writer does it oh so eloquently:

Lewd Stares

It's difficult to explain to our western men. You guys have a way of looking at women, I know you look, however, I don't feel violated. I don't feel lower than shark pooh. I don't care that you look at me that way, 'cause I know, I probably look not half-bad and hey, if I can provide the eye-candy, I'm happy to help. :) These guys do it in such a way, that you can see them undressing you with their eyes and they're not afraid to let their eyes wander. I've taken to confronting them head-on, with a "WHAT?", they quickly back down, but as you'll see from the comments on the article, it's a really wide-spread problem. Another reason why I'm really looking forward to moving to Dubai, SO much more western! Hey, I felt totally over-dressed the last couple of times we were there, house-hunting. It was SO nice to see women, in SHORTS and STRAPPY T's, IN the shops!

The next article is just sad, in so many, many ways. I can't begin to think that you have to be in jail for the first few weeks of your baby's life. She'll probably be deported and banned from ever entering the country again. Just a weird fact of life here:

In Jail

and this comment here:

Police said the hospital should have informed them immediately.

"They should not accept such cases of unmarried pregnant women," police said.

Um, what was he thinking? Did he want her to give birth in a police car? The rigidness of the law enforcement system still boggles my mind.

And on a much more cheereful note:

Only, like, you know, the coolest Royal eveRRRRRR:

Sheikh Mohammed on Facebook

and it's NOT a fan page, it's a normal page like everybody else has! He also tweets:

The Sheikh Tweets

I told you he was cool! :)

A quick update on the move:

As you can tell, I'm still online. We'll be moving next week Tuesday-ish. We're getting quotes from moving companies and should be all sorted by the end of the week. One other cool thing I found out today, is that our new ISP is "du" the alternative to Etisalat. DOUBLE-WHAMMY YEAH!! Reliable reports from friends that just moved to Dubai, state that they are EXCELLENT, with fantastic customer service, so it's looking really good, for minimal internet down time :)

A really quick Kaydin update:

He's now started to say "no". Ok, I'm gonna try my best to translate this. First the Afrikaans version:

Hy begin nou verstaan van "nee". Nie as ek sê "nee, moenie dit of dat doen nie", dan is sy ore nog bot toe, maar hy sê dit nou. As ek vra of hy wil water of 'n koekie, of wat ook al wil hê, dan sê hy: "nie koekie/water hê nie. (huh??!!) En nou begin hy ook met "uh-uh" EN hy skud sy kop, vir ekstra effek!! huh??!!

Right, now for the English version:

He's starting to say "no". Not that he listens when I tell him not to do something, then he's ears don't function at all and really are just ornaments sitting there. But when he doesn't want something he'll tell me that he doesn't want the cookie/water, whatever it was that I wanted to give him. He also started with the head-shaking "uh-uh".

It's too funny, my lips might not last the week, 'cause whenever he does that, I have to bite down really hard so that I don't laugh. He's a funny, funny child!
